You wake up, roll over in bed, and grab your phone. You check Twitter first. Scrolling through it, you see various people tweeting about their day, vacation, jokes they stole off another account to seem funny, whatever. You open Snapchat and see all the 'stories' from the previous night. Different people at different parties or concerts. And finally, Instagram. Pretty pictures of pretty people doing pretty things.
Or is this just what my timeline ends up feeling like? Honestly, it can all make my life feel pretty boring sometimes. Seeing all these exciting activities come up on your feed can make you feel totally envious of that person's life. That guy went to Thailand this summer. That girl's hair is so long and pretty. Oh, look, she went on a hike with all her friends and took really awesome pictures. Or maybe that guy posts funny tweets that gets loads of favorites.
But then you realize... you don't really know them. You're allowing people to see only a fragment of your life. Honestly, there's a girl I follow on Insta that I sometimes find myself being completely jealous of. She seems like she has the perfect relationship, goes on cool trips, and takes really pretty selfies that end up getting tons of likes. But have I ever really had a real conversation with her? No. So why am I jealous of someone's life when I don't know it at all.
Sometimes I just get overwhelmed with social media. People tend to focus too much on making their lives look perfect and their follow count. The next time you scroll through your timeline, try to remember there's more to the story than that single picture. And if you're like me and sometimes end up comparing your life to theirs - don't. There's more to life than posting a cool picture or tweet. Your follower count doesn't determine your worth. Focus on more important things, and your life will maybe become a little bit better.
